Culinary Bucket List

So, I'm a big Amy Tan fan. I love the themes of assimilation, culture clashes, and generational relationships. Also, I love her descriptions of traditional Chinese fare- most things I have never tried and will never try, because I simply wouldn't know where to get them. Steamed fish, buns stuffed with sweet sticky bean paste, rubbery squid dishes- it all seems so exotic and interesting. Recently, I've been reading The Bonesetter's Daughter, a story about a middle-aged woman who has to solve a mystery concerning the parentage of her mother, who is supposedly suffering from dementia. It's an excellent book- and it's filled with these descriptions of delicious sounding asian food that I've never tried. The main character, Ruth, enjoys eating pickled white turnips straight out of the fridge when she's stressed out. I enjoy eating pickled things whether I'm stressed out or not. After I read about Ruth's pickle passion, I mentally began to plan my own batch of pickled turnips. Then, as I am wont to do, I began to dream up all the things I want to cook, but never have for whatever reason. I thought to myself, I need to make myself a bucket list- a list of foods I would like to make for the first time, or finally perfect before I die. Here are my initial thoughts:

1. Chinese pickled turnips
2. A turducken
3. Tacos (without using the seasoning packet)
4. Refried beans
5. Fried rice
6. Curry
7. Roast beef
8. Bread
9. a Lane Cake
10. Home-made ice cream.

What is on your culinary bucket list?
