The Problem

Ok, ya'll, here's my problem. I like to cook... sort of. I think I am more or less in love with the IDEA of cooking. I love the planning stages. Right now my brain is abuzz with no less than 20 ideas of how I should spend my Saturday, and this includes at least 4 or 5 things I'd like to make. So, being a person of many FABULOUS ideas, you'd think that I'd be terribly productive. Ah, no. I have discussed with many people that I am about 90% ideas and about 10% follow-through. Which is actually a good thing, considering a lot of my ideas are things like, "Get a pony!" and "Move to Guam!" But most of my ideas are practical, every day things like "Hmm... I should vacuum." Alas, vacuuming only happens marginally more often than me getting ponies.
I also think I may be enamored with the idea of blogging. Or maybe it's just another one of those great ideas that I have.

Anyway, I created this blog in a restless fit of needing to DO something. Something creative, experimental... something AWESOME. My original plan was to comb through my grandmother's old cookbooks and make an old recipe. Then my friend (and co-author of this blog) and I also came up with this great idea of doing periodic posts about whether something should be store-bought or home-made. We started ambitiously- by making spaghetti sauce. I found the left-over frozen spare ribs from that recipe in my freezer the other day- they were dated "8/7/11", so I threw them out. (Only too late did it occur to me that the date should have said 8/7/12, and that they were still good.) THE POINT is, I've never written the post for that recipe. Most likely never will, since I think we determined the Prego was better than the sauce that we made, a disappointment considering the amount of time we spent making it.

What happened? Am I a giant flake? I have a tendency to lean towards "yes", but then again, I am busy. I have a growing son who takes up most of my free time, I am working towards a graduate degree, and I teach full time. Also, you know, there is facebook.

Also, there is the pressure of having THEMED posts. These themes take effort, and planning, not just a great idea.  I just need to admit, I am not that organized. So I've decided to change the name, and the attitude surrounding this blog. I'm just going to tell you guys... I'm disorganized. There. I said it. YOU HEAR THAT, INTERNET? I'M DISORGANIZED! HA!

Anyway. Today I am going to endeavor to make soup beans and cornbread. I may or may not write about it. That is all.
